Sarah Cox
Sarah Cox is a Surrey artist that I’ve loved getting to know over the last year or so. Her work is full of colour and positive energy, with suggestions of the local landscape. I’m delighted to have this new collection of paintings to exclusively share here.
JEWEL SERIES
Finding Inspiration in Nature
Sarah’s Jewel series draws upon the beautiful colours and energy of the flowers from the summer garden as well as views from walking in the Surrey Hills.
You will notice the peachy orange of honeysuckle, hot magenta of sweet peas, coral pinks of paper peonies, purple-lilac of verbena and more.
The delicious colours in Sarah’s work aim to bring the joy of the outside in. With titles such as 'Tutti Frutti" and 'Little Blue Topaz' they're presented in gorgeous hand-painted, coloured frames, each chosen specifically to enhance the paintings and add even more personality to the piece.
In Sarah’s own words:
“I respond intuitively to each of the landscapes that I have walked and seek to capture the elemental nature and energy of a place rather than to record a literal interpretation. Ancient wisdom is often believed to be embedded in the landscape. Many cultures attribute spiritual significance to natural elements, viewing landscapes as repositories of collective knowledge and energy. Exploring such places allows me to gain a deeper understanding of the cultural tapestry woven into the land.
I like to contrast elements of tight, structured paint work with loose, atmospheric washes and gestural marks. Colour and texture are both dominant elements in my paintings. Expect to see a mixture of sweeping brush strokes, palette knife work, dripping paint, scratched back surfaces and washy pools of paint. Like the patina of time, my work is multi-layered; built up and scraped back. This adds both depth and textural variety to my work.”

There will be new work from Sarah periodically, or get in touch with me if you’d like to find out about commissioning a bespoke piece to suit your requirements.
